We’re Here for You!
One question I often get from parents concerns how to make sure your homeschooled child is prepared for success after high school.
As our world changes and employment options, opportunities, and demands shift, it’s become evident that there are many options for a high school graduate, and our goal is to support you in preparing your child for success, regardless of which direction he or she takes.
In our program, we support you by providing state standard aligned social studies and science at the elementary level, and at the secondary level, all core classes are also aligned with state standards. Secondary courses also offer you all the options you need to meet transcript requirements for most universities. We do suggest you check specific university requirements to make sure you cover your bases, but our offerings provide a strong foundation for successful college entrance.
Because the cost of college continues to rise, we also provide opportunities for our students to earn college credits on our campus through our partnership with Oklahoma Christian University. We’ve been offering 9 credit hours of college level English for several years, and this year we added the opportunity for students to earn 3 credit hours of college level math. Next year we hope to add an introductory lab science oppotunity, which would provide our students with 4 more credit hours. Each class requires an additional payment of $245 directly to Oklahoma Christian with no additional fees. That means you are paying $81.60 per credit hour for each class. For comparison, with tuition and fees, most Oklahoma universities charge between $159.98 - $329.55 per credit hour. By taking courses at SCS, your student could earn 16 credit hours through an accredited university at a significant savings, and since OC allows us to teach courses with our active learning/project-based focus and on our campus, it is a nice transition into college level classes in a more familiar environment.
Our classes also provide opportunities for students to gain skills they will need in any workplace or vocation. In elementary classes, our students start learning the art of collaboration, the gift of imagination, and the tools for successful presentation. In addition, by providing our students options and opportunities to direct their learning, we help them gain the abilily to learn how to research, investigate, and explore any topic. This allows them to be lifelong learners capable of learning anything they decide to learn!
So far, we have had eight students graduate from high school with SCS as part of their educational journey. Five of our students are in college full time and doing well. Several of them received academic scholarships to college and have been on the honor roll throughout their college career thus far. They are pursuing majors in various areas, such as Business Administration, Marketing, and Vocal Performance. One student chose to join the military. He aced his ASVAB with a score so high he had a choice of any job he wanted in the United States Air Force. He is set to graduate with honors from BMT soon. Another is pursuing her goal of becoming a graphic designer by taking advanced 2D animation courses at Francis Tuttle, and our final graduate is officially incorporated and is taking online courses as she works towards her dream of becoming an entrepreneur and starting a specialized clothing line. We’re so proud of our graduates, and we are honored to have been part of their educational journeys.
I plan to create a webinar for those needing help creating a high school transcript, but for now, you can use our resource here: High School Transcript Workshop. While we leave transcripts in the hands of our parents, we are happy to help and are honored to provide resources to prepare our students for success after high school.
If you ever wonder if homeschooled students will be prepared for success after high school, remember we are here to support you! We align with state standards, coordinate with leaders from several universities, are aware of local resources for specialized training, and keep an eye on trends in education and employment for you. Supporting you is our number one goal, and this focus on preparing your students for success after high school is one way we do that.
Regardless of your student’s goal after high school, we help you provide a foundation for success.
